Glam at the Brits

There were so many gorgeous looks at the Brit Awards! Lots of make up and hair inspo to last us a while. Here’s some tips on some of the looks so you can try them yourself.

Ellie Goulding

For a fresh, natural, yet glam look, stick to nude colours.
Go darker brown at the edges of eyes for some definition. And add some long fluttery lashes to the ends of your eyes.
You want your cheeks to look fresh with a pinky tone but also want a bit of a glow. Try Elf Peachy Cheeky – a baked bronzer/blusher.
For her gorgeous nude lips, Mac Peach Stock is a good one.
Rita Ora

Love her super smokey eyes, very glam!
Use golds browns and black for this look. Blend well for a really smokey finish. Tip- add a super shimmery gold to inner corners of eyes.
Sleek has a great cheek palette for this look. It’s a contouring palette with 3 colours. Dark under cheekbones, blush on the cheeks and highlighter on top to finish. You’ll have higher cheekbones, and a glow.
Defined eyebrows look great with this look. Grab an angle brush and some eyeshadow and fill in brows for a perfect shape. Don’t fret if you can’t get them to look exactly the same. Eyebrows are sisters not twins!
Mac half and half is a great lippy for this one.
Taylor Swift

We love Taylor’s Classic glam.
Go for a light matte brown on the crease of lids. Add a shimmery white or silver to lids and inner corners of eyes. Paint on a feline flick – I recommend a gel liner – the Bobbi Brown one is fab to get a nice controlled flick! Pop on eyelure 117 lashes for this look.
Contour cheeks. Apply a pinky blusher to apples of cheeks and a highlighter just above. This will make cheekbones really pop.
For a classic red lip, I recommend Mac Russian Red.

Enjoy getting red carpet glam for your next night out! Or pop in to Athena and relax with a glass of bubbles and we’ll do the hard work for you xx

Valentines Lippys

Valentines day is a fab excuse to get girly and glam!

Here are Sandra and Aleysha’s top 6 Valentines lipstick picks!

For an orangey red pout, we love Mac – Lady Danger. It’s a bright, firey colour that brightens up the face. Best paired with eyes more on the natural side, maybe a flick liner and lashes. It’s matte and stays put!

For a pink that’s not too bright, not too dark, we love Inglot 419 from the matte collection. Would look great on Valentines day with a light smokey eye and pink blush.

Tip: For more control over the shape of your lips, forget using the lipstick. Use a brush to take colour of the lipstick and brush on to lips. No need for lip liner!

A pastel baby pink is fresh and girly and goes great with any colour on the eyes! We love a dark purple eye with this! This one is Mac Saint Germain.

A classic red is always a good way to go. Try Limecrime gloss to matte in red velvet. It sticks like glue and doesn’t come off until you scrub with makeup remover! Definitely a great one for a vintage look. Try a vintage wave in the hair or hair up with a vintage roll.

Tip:For the perfect shape, go around lips with concealer using a thin brush.

This is the brightest of pinks and we love it! Mac – Candy yumyum. Also matte and best with tamed eye make up. Be fun with your hair though! Big curls would look fab.

For something a little different to the norm, try a light purple. This one is inglot 420. Looks amazing with a glow in the skin, so use some bronzer and highlighter with this look.

So whether you have  a date with Mr.Grey and some popcorn, or the other half has something romantical planned, we hope you look glam with these lippy ideas and tips! And if you love the ideas but don’t know how to go about it, pop in to Athena – 20% off glam on Valentines day! (and a glass of fizz and heart shaped lollies) xx

Get Rochelle Humes National TV awards look!

How glam was Rochelle Humes at the National TV awards! We loved the loose up do and gorge lippy with that stunning dress.

Here’s Aleysha taking you through how to get this glam for your next night out 🙂

Start with a light eyeshadow over your lids and inner corners of your eyes. Either a shimmery white or light gold would be fab. Then add a warm pink or a darker gold to the crease. Pop on some false lashes and apply pencil liner to your lash lines. Grab a brush and blend. Add on inner white liner to make eyes really pop. Then lots of mascara!

Start the base with a lighter colour under your eyes, bridge of your nose to bottom of forehead and under your lips. Apply a darker colour under cheekbones, either side of bridge of nose, top of forehead and along jawline. Apply a true to skin tone to the rest of your face and blend.

To go for a soft round natural brow shape like Rochelle’s, use a thin angle brush to apply eyeshadow and fill in colour to get the right shape.

I mixed quite a dark orange lippy from Inglot with Mac Russian Red to get this dark coral colour.

To get Rochelle’s loose curly up do, begin by tonging all your hair in large sections.

Backcomb the roots to get some volume and backcomb the curls themselves to get them slightly bigger and with more texture so they are easier to pin up. Loosely pin the curls back to gather in a curly bun.

Get Jennifer Lopez’s Golden Globes look

We absolutely loved Jennifer Lopez’s Golden Globes look, with her super smokey eyes, glowing skin and loose bouncy waves!

We wanted to recreate the look along with some steps on how to recreate it yourself. So here’s Aleysha taking you through how to get the look!

Start with the eyes as this is a smokey look which can get a little messy and we don’t want to mess up the base.

Use a highlighter beneath the brow and the inner corners of the eyes. Something shimmery would be great as JLO is all about the glow! Add a brown shade in the crease and a black shadow from the lashline upwards. Blend well so it’s nice and smokey. Apply black pencil around the eyes and blend this with a brush too. Pop on some false lashes!

Start the base with a lighter shade to highlight parts of your face. Add a darker colour to anywhere you want definition or to make appear smaller.

Blend and pop on some loose powder to set.
Brush on bronzer for some extra contour. I have gone over my cheeks and forehead. Add a little highlighter to your cheekbones to make them stand out (and for the JLO glow!)
Brush on a soft eyeshadow to your brows to help them stand out and to shape them.
Find a nude lipstick that compliments your skin tone. I have gone for Mac peach-stock.
Part your hair in the middle but not all the way back, leave some to backcomb for volume. To create loose waves, grab large sections of hair and start the wave half way down. Twist your irons around to create a loose wave, or if you prefer to use tongs, brush out the curls at the end!

We hope you enjoy recreating the look yourself!
